Adopt, don't shop Every rescued animal has a story—a past of neglect, abandonment, or hardship. By choosing adoption, you become their hero, giving them the love, safety, and second chance they deserve.

Adoption doesn’t just change the life of the animal you save—it creates space for another in need. It’s a powerful act of compassion that turns pain into hope, fear into trust, and loneliness into belonging.

Our Mission

To save as many as possible

At SCARS, our mission is to rescue, heal, and restore hope for animals who have endured unthinkable cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We provide a haven of love, care, and rehabilitation for dogs and other animals with complex behavioral challenges—those society deems “unadoptable” or beyond saving.

Many of the souls we take in have suffered abuse, starvation, or life on the streets, yet they still hold on to hope. We are their second chance—whether that means rehabilitating them for a loving home or offering them a safe, nurturing sanctuary where they can finally experience kindness, comfort, and dignity in their final years.

Because at SCARS, we believe that every life is worth saving, and no animal should be left behind.

Our Vision

The Ultimate Dream

Our vision is to create a world where every dog, regardless of age, past trauma, or behavioral challenges, has a chance to live with love, comfort, and dignity. We dream of a future where no animal is turned away simply because there isn’t enough space—where every soul in need finds safety, healing, and a place to call home.

To truly make this vision a reality, we need to expand to a larger sanctuary, allowing us to rescue more animals, rehabilitate the broken, and provide a peaceful haven where those who can’t be rehomed can live out their golden years in safety and love.

But we can’t do it alone. Running an animal sanctuary comes with overwhelming financial challenges—food, medical care, shelter, and rehabilitation all come at a cost. With the support of compassionate donors and sponsors, we can build a place where no animal is ever turned away, and every life is given the chance it deserves.

Because together, anything is possible. Together, we can save so many more

Where You Can Help

Offer a New Home

Adopt, don't Shop

  • Adoption fees apply, and strict home checks are conducted to ensure the best possible environment for our rescues.

  • If you can’t adopt, Please consider  Sponsoring a Sanctuary Animal – Virtual adoption allows you to support a dog who cannot be re-homed, ensuring they receive the love, care, and security they deserve.

  • Your chosen animal becomes yours to love from afar.
  • No Monthly amount towards a Virtual Adoption is too small.

Vet and Care

This is Crucial

  • Running a rescue comes with overwhelming financial demands, and our monthly costs can range from R3,000 to R30,000  (+- $165 - $1650) depending on the needs of the animals in our care.
  • Vet bills, life-saving medications, sterilizations, deworming, vaccinations, and grooming essentials all add up quickly. Many of the animals we take in require emergency medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care, which can be incredibly costly.

Food and Extras

This adds up Fast

  • The cost of feeding our ever-growing family adds up fast. We go through at least 20kg of dog food PER DAY, and our monthly food expenses sometimes reach up to R22,000  (+- $1200) this includes  rabbits, chickens, and cats.
  • Toys, blankets, towels and comfy beds mean love, warmth, and happiness
  • To keep our furry residents happy, we also need chew hooves and toys,  — items that wear out quickly but are essential to see wagging tails

Maintenance, Running Costs & Salaries

  • To  keep our sanctuary safe and fully operational. Our monthly expenses average around R40,000, (+- $2100) and this excludes extra unexpected things that break.
  • Salaries – Our dedicated caregivers work tirelessly to feed, care for, and rehabilitate.
  • Rent & Maintenance
  • Water & Electricity – Running a sanctuary means constant power usage and water.
  • Transport Costs – Rescues, vet visits, rehoming efforts, and emergencies all come with fuel and transport expenses.
