At SCARS, our mission is to rescue, heal, and restore hope for animals who have endured unthinkable cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We provide a haven of love, care, and rehabilitation for dogs and other animals with complex behavioral challenges—those society deems “unadoptable” or beyond saving.

Many of the souls we take in have suffered abuse, starvation, or life on the streets, yet they still hold on to hope. We are their second chance—whether that means rehabilitating them for a loving home or offering them a safe, nurturing sanctuary where they can finally experience kindness, comfort, and dignity in their final years.

Our vision is to create a world where every dog, regardless of age, past trauma, or behavioral challenges, has a chance to live with love, comfort, and dignity. We dream of a future where no animal is turned away simply because there isn’t enough space—where every soul in need finds safety, healing, and a place to call home.

To truly make this vision a reality, we need to expand to a larger sanctuary, allowing us to rescue more animals, rehabilitate the broken, and provide a peaceful haven where those who can’t be rehomed can live out their golden years in safety and love.

But we can’t do it alone. Running an animal sanctuary comes with overwhelming financial challenges—food, medical care, shelter, and rehabilitation all come at a cost. Maintenance, Running Costs & Salaries

To keep our sanctuary safe and fully operational. Our monthly expenses average around R40,000, (+- $2100) and this excludes extra unexpected things that break.
Salaries – Our dedicated caregivers work tirelessly to feed, care for, and rehabilitate.
Rent & Maintenance.
Water & Electricity – Running a sanctuary means constant power usage and water.
Transport Costs – Rescues, vet visits, rehoming efforts, and emergencies all come with fuel and transport expenses.
